Presidential Professor of Education & Director of SNF Paideia at the University of Pennsylvania
Sigal Ben-Porath is the MRMJJ Presidential Professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is also a member of the philosophy and political science departments, as well as faculty director of the SNF Paideia Program for civic dialogue. She received her doctorate in political philosophy from Tel-Aviv university in 2000 and was a fellow at Princeton University’s Center for Human Values, the Institute for Advanced Studies, and the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. Her recent books are “Cancel War”, “Free Speech on Campus”, as well as “Making Up Our Mind”.
To preserve and strengthen our democracy we need to make room for emotions in politics, but not to give up our agency and our capacity to control the decisions that each of us makes.
