Kostis Papaioannou

Director of SIGNAL, an initiative for researching and taking action against the far right, Chairperson of The Technopolis City of Athens

Kostis Papaioannou is Chairperson of The Technopolis City of Athens and Director of SIGNAL, an initiative for researching and taking action against the far right. He has also been a member of the Golden Dawn Watch. Papaioannou served as Secretary General for Transparency and Human Rights in the Ministry of Justice between 2015 and 2016, President of the National Commission for Human Rights between 2006 and 2015 and Chair of the Greek section of Amnesty International between 1996 and 2003. He was co-founder and coordinator of the Racist Violence Recording Network, and he has published several books on the far right. He currently teaches History and Greek at the Lycée Franco-Hellénique Eugène Delacroix.

The far right today seeks to set or influence the agenda and —when it can— to govern. Its influence is already visible: part of its programmatic discourse is now official European policy on migration.
